MEET CRAIG

Craig can be trusted to always listen to residents and find balanced solutions to problems for the benefit of the entire community.

As a 50-year resident of Beverly Hills, Craig understands the history of the city and how it has evolved over time, and is uniquely qualified to help manage inevitable change while preserving the essence of who we are.

The City Council will lose two experienced members in March. Craig will be able to hit the ground running due to his extensive experience in city government, legal background, and decades of community service.

ROOTS IN BEVERLY HILLS

Craig is a proud graduate of Hawthorne (K-8) and Beverly Hills High School (Class of 1977) with generational roots in Beverly Hills. His parents, Nan and Gene Corman, were community fixtures in the city for decades, having both graduated from Beverly Hills High School in the 1940’s. Craig’s father and uncle, Roger Corman, were well-known filmmakers and are both members of the Beverly Hills High School Hall of Fame.

While at Beverly High, Craig was an early pioneer of KBEV, the student television station.

EDUCATION aND EXPERIENCE

After benefitting from the excellent education provided by the Beverly Hills schools, Craig earned his B.A. from Stanford University (1981) and his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School (1984).

During college, Craig worked as a Production Assistant on The Big Red One in Israel and The Georgia Peaches in South Carolina. After law school, he worked for prominent local trial attorney Marshall Grossman, then at O’Melveny & Myers, where he focused on entertainment litigation.

But family comes first for Craig. When his wife Karen’s legal career flourished as a partner at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, he cut back his work schedule to focus on raising their children. During this time, Craig also briefly returned to the family business when he wrote and directed the low-budget film Harold Robbins’ Body Parts in the Philippines.

COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP

Always active in the Beverly Hills community, Craig served for eight years on the Planning Commission (being re-appointed three times), and has served the last four years on the Cultural Heritage Commission. He is a past Chair of both commissions.

While on the Planning Commission, Craig helped draft key provisions of the development code, including the Trousdale View Preservation Ordinance, the current Historic Preservation Ordinance, and multiple ordinances enacting new development standards in the Hillside Area and Central Area. While on the Cultural Heritage Commission, he has worked to implement and refine the city’s historic preservation program he helped create.

Outside city government, Craig managed and coached his children’s baseball and softball teams for six years in Beverly Hills Little League, and has been a member of the Rotary Club of Beverly Hills since 2016.
