Click on each priority in the section below to learn more:

    1. Utilize more technology to prevent and deter crime, including more cameras and A.I. software to monitor cameras in real time.

    2. Maintain a fully-staffed Police Department.

    3. Continue to deploy private security vehicles in our neighborhoods to augment BHPD patrols.

    4. Push to hire a local prosecuting attorney to prosecute crimes the D.A. won’t.

    5. Oppose any bail reform that identifies in advance what crimes won’t lead to pre-trial incarceration.

    6. Establish a police sub-station adjacent to the La Cienega Metro station.

    7. Lobby Sacramento to allow camera enforcement of stop signs to disincentivize dangerous cut-through traffic in our neighborhoods.

    8. Provide sufficient supportive housing to humanely relocate the unhoused from our neighborhoods.

    1. Engage with the community on where and how to accommodate state-mandated housing growth, then plan for development instead of reacting to proposed projects with spot-zoning.

    2. Reduce unit size along high-transit corridors to provide new housing for young professionals and families.

    3. Prioritize BHUSD teachers and essential city workforce for new affordable housing in compliance with Fair Housing Act standards.

    4. Preserve existing affordable housing stock by enhancing our Mills Act program and implementing a Transfer Development Rights program.

    5. Create greenspace in new development wherever possible.

    1. Upgrade electrical grid and implement electricity generation and storage where feasible, reducing reliance on Southern California Edison.

    2. Enhance water sustainability and self-sufficiency in case of emergencies.

    3. Institute plan for best environmental practices including gray water irrigation, drought tolerant landscaping, and trees with shade canopy.

    4. Implement regular habitability inspections of rental properties.

    5. Hire a full-time Chief Sustainability Officer who reports directly to the City Manager.

    1. Institute zero-base budgeting to avoid wasteful annual “budget creep” and enhance accountability.

    2. Avoid single-bid city contracts as much as possible.

    3. Reduce blind acceptance of consultant recommendations concerning city project expenditures.

    4. Avoid new taxes on residents or businesses – work within our budget limits.

    1. Maintain the JPA at the highest possible level.

    2. Provide increased security support at BHUSD campuses.

    3. Work with BHUSD to develop income-producing assets on surplus school property.

    4. Work with BHUSD to develop a dedicated pre-school at the Hawthorne campus.

    1. Utilize city properties to attract a critical mass of younger-skewing restaurants and businesses to help lay the foundation for the next era of our retail environment.

    2. Enhance our identity as a retail destination by supporting locally owned and operated stores that serve as an alternative to the Amazons of the world.

    3. Incentivize larger anchor retail establishments near the La Cienega Metro station to help revitalize the area.
